Lincoln Memorial University hosting free concert on Friday

HARROGATE, Tenn. - The Lincoln Memorial University Music Department will offer an evening of free music beginning at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the Elizabeth D. Chinnock Chapel on the campus of LMU.

Assistant professor of music and department head Douglas Mead will join Western Kentucky University faculty members Michele Fiala and Donald Speer for a one-time performance.

Fiala is assistant professor of double reeds at Western Kentucky University. She has performed in concerts throughout the United States, Italy and Canada with the Louisville Orchestra, Phoenix Symphony, Lee Ann Rimes, Roberta Flack, Barry Williams, the Tafelmusik Baroque Summer Institute, and the Banff Summer Music Festival.

She was previously principal oboist of the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra and faculty at Georgetown College, Asbury College and Eastern Kentucky University.

Speer is professor of piano at Western Kentucky University, where he teaches class piano, pedagogy and accompanying.

Speer performs frequently as a collaborative artist and chamber musician and has premiered numerous works by contemporary composers including Michael Kallstom and Lewis Neilson.

Lincoln Memorial University is a values-based learning community dedicated to providing educational experiences in the liberal arts and professional studies. The main campus is located in Harrogate.
