JOHNSON CITY - A third victim died Saturday from injuries she suffered in a two-vehicle collision on Tuesday, police said.

Johnson City police said Saturday that Michelle Campbell, 18, 314 S. Broadway St., died at Johnson City Medical Center four days after she was involved in a deadly wreck that claimed the lives of two Johnson City women and sent four others, including Campbell, to the hospital.

Campbell was a passenger in a 1991 Plymouth Voyager that was traveling east on East Watauga Avenue when it struck a 1996 Ford Contour, killing the Contour's two occupants.

The wreck happened shortly after 4 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of East Watauga and East Oakland Avenue.

Valarie R. Mitchell, 22, and her mother, Ethel A. Cox, 42, both of 1300 Clearview Drive, No. 4., were traveling in the Contour. They were pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck, police said.

Campbell and three other victims in the Voyager were reportedly taken to JCMC, according to police.

The driver of the van, Patsy J. Cole, 18, and passenger 11-month-old Damien Cole, also lived at 314 S. Broadway. Israel Brown, 20, 1901 Knob Creek Road, was another passenger in the Voyager.

Brown was listed in serious condition at the hospital as of Saturday night.

No information was available on the conditions of Patsy or Damien Cole.

Police said Campbell was not wearing a seat belt and that was a contributing factor in her death.

Police have yet to give the cause of the wreck.

However, charges are pending in the crash, which is under investigation by the Johnson City Police Department's Traffic Homicide Team.
