JOHNSON CITY - A certified nursing assistant will no longer be allowed to practice nursing after pleading guilty to gross neglect of an impaired adult.

Ruby Nell Finch, 43, 118 Lark St., Bristol, Tenn., pleaded guilty in Washington County Criminal Court in Jonesborough recently.

According to court documents, Finch was working at Life Care Center of Gray last summer when an 88-year-old blind woman in her care was found seriously injured. The patient was eventually hospitalized due to several broken bones in her face.

According to a Tennessee Bureau of Investigation release, an investigation revealed Finch had not raised the woman's bed rail when she put her into bed, which allowed the woman to fall face first onto the floor.

The TBI said Finch not only did not notify the facility's administrators, but put the woman, who also is mentally disabled, back into her bed and then lied about how she was injured.

Finch was sentenced to three years, 90 days of which she will serve immediately. She was also placed on 10 years probation and received a $50 fine.

Finch will also be placed on the Abuse Registry, which will prevent her from working as a nurse in the future.
