Two Tri-Cities accounting firms merge

KINGSPORT - Effective Jan. 1, Blackburn, Childers & Steagall PLC of Johnson City and Hoover Harrison Associates PC of Kingsport have joined together to form the largest accounting firm in Northeast Tennessee and will be operating under the name of Blackburn, Childers & Steagall, PLC. Hoover Harrison has served the areas of East Tennessee and Southwest Virginia for more than 30 years. One of the largest firms in Kingsport, Hoover Harrison was formed in 1975 when Herbert Hoover and Roscoe Harrison merged their individual practices. The BCS Kingsport office is located at 440 E. Sullivan St., downtown, the current Hoover Harrison location. BCS was founded in 1961 by Joe Blackburn Jr. and Carl Childers Jr. The combined firm has eight partners - Jeff Blackburn, Charles Steagall, Karen McMurray, Tommy Greer, Melissa Steagall-Jones, Wade Farmer, Travis McMurray and Charles Huffman - and a staff of more than 70 employees. BCS services include accounting, taxes and consulting to cover areas such as auditing, personal financial planning, medical practice consulting, litigation support, business valuations, estate services, employee benefits, and other specialized services.
