KINGSPORT - The Fort Henry Mall has a new owner.

Somera Capital Management has acquired the mall for an undisclosed amount and has contracted with Chicago-based General Growth Properties Inc. to oversee the management, leasing and marketing of the property.

General Growth Properties is the second-largest owner and developer of regional shopping centers in the nation.

Fort Henry Mall Manager Kevin Harmon will remain in his position.

"We're looking forward to General Growth managing this property and making good things happen," Harmon said Monday.

Harmon said he will travel to Chicago this week to meet with officials from the new management company and hopes to learn then if any changes - including a name change - are planned for the mall.

The 600,000-square-foot mall was built in 1976 and features 65 national and local retailers, including Aeropostale, American Eagle Outfitters, Bath and Body Works, C.J. Banks and Victoria's Secret. The mall is anchored by Sears, Belk and J.C. Penney.

Previously the mall was owned by Baltry LLC of Syracuse, N.Y., and managed by BoardWalk Management Co.
