Keith and Ervin Stiltner, who have operated the track for 10 years, announced Tuesday on Facebook that LPR will not run this year.
“With the low fan counts and car counts and the struggling economy in Southwest Virginia, we just feel it’s the best decision at this time,” they posted. “We would like to thank each and every driver, fan, sponsor, crew member and employee that has given (their) time to keep cars roaring around Lonesome Pine Raceway.”
After partnering with Kingsport Speedway in 2014, LPR regained its NASCAR sanction and rejoined the Whelen All-American Series that year.
In the Facebook post, the Stiltners invited local race fans out to Kingsport Speedway, which will begin its season on March 24.
They concluded: “We wish everyone the best and hope you will support us at Kingsport Speedway this season.”
