• Aug 26, 2017 at 7:09 PM

KINGSPORT — Jonesborough’s Robbie Ferguson and Kingsport’s Ronnie McCarty returned to victory lane Friday night during Back to School Night at the Races at Kingsport Speedway.

For each driver, it was the second NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model Stock Car win of the season but first since the first month of racing this year.

Kres VanDyke, the current track points leader and a nine-time winner this season, set a fast time of 15.125 during qualifying. McCarty, the two-time defending track champion, was second fastest at 15.132.

Ferguson won the first twin race ahead of VanDyke, Wayne Hale, McCarty and Austin Peters. McCarty crossed the finish line first in the second 35-lapper ahead of Ferguson, Nik Williams, VanDyke and Hale.

Other winners on the night were Royce Peters (Modified Street), Keith Helton (Pure 4), Kevin Canter (Mod 4) and Doug Austin (Pure Street).

Back to School Night at the Races was presented by Precision Electrical Co., Select Seven Credit Union and K&N Performance Parts.
