The berm construction is now finished, marking the completion of another major phase of the dam’s seepage remediation project. Mary Ellen Miller, public relations program manager for the Boone Dam project, said this phase, which was expected to be finished sometime this month, was completed just days ahead of schedule.
“We expected to get it done by June but we got it by the end of May,” Miller said.
The berm construction phase involved placing 223,000 tons of rock from local quarries on both the upstream and downstream berms with the aim of stabilizing the earthen embankment in preparation for the next major phase, construction of the underground cutoff wall.
