VSP investigating fatal Lee County crash

A head-on crash on Route 58 killed two people Friday night in Lee County, according to the Virginia State Police.

Witnesses said a 2006 Pontiac G6 had pulled out from a gas station traveling west in the eastbound lanes of Route 58. The Pontiac almost hit two vehicles before striking head-on an eastbound 2018 Kia Optima.

State police were called to the scene at 8:37 p.m., according to a press release from Corinne N. Geller, public relations director for VSP. The crash occurred the tunnel in Lee County.

Geller said the driver of the Pontiac, Amy N. Hubbard, 32, of Middlesboro, Kentucky, died at the scene.

The driver of the Kia, Kimberly A. Bingham, 34, of Harrogate, Tennessee, also died at the scene. Her 8-year-old daughter was flown by State Police MedFlight helicopter to UT Medical Center in Knoxville for treatment of serious injuries.

Geller said the crash remains under investigation.
