Floyd, Va. woman killed in Lee Co. traffic crash

A Floyd, Va. woman was killed Friday night in a traffic accident in Lee County, according to the Virginia State Police.

VSP Trooper G.A. Powers is investigating the single-vehicle crash that occurred Friday, at 8:54 a.m., on Route 58, less than a mile west of Route 726.

The driver, Renee Ferguson, 50, of Floyd, died at the scene. She was wearing a seat belt.

The 2003 Subaru Legacy Ferguson was driving was traveling west on Rte 58, when it ran off the left side of road. The driver over-corrected, according to a VSP press release, causing the vehicle to cross back into the westbound lanes of Route 58 and run off the right side of the road. The vehicle struck several trees, spun around and struck several rocks.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
