According to Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Andy Seabolt, just after 3 p.m. a female called 911 from the 500 block of Cox Hollow Road to report that she had been threatened with a handgun and that shots had been fired.
The victim advised that upon her arrival at home, William Kevin Carter, 55, Cox Hollow Road, became argumentative and told her that she needed to leave the residence. Carter retrieved a 9mm handgun and fired two rounds in her direction. She was able to flee the home with Carter in pursuit. Carter eventually ran into the woods and the victim met officers to report the incident.
Officers were advised that Carter was last seen wearing camouflage pants and a brown Carhartt jacket. Due to the fact that Carter was armed, police established a perimeter and requested the assistance of a helicopter in locating him. Several different locations were checked as well; however, Carter was not located.
Detectives will be charging Carter with attempted first-degree murder.
Carter is wanted by multiple jurisdictions for theft, fraud and contractor fraud.
Anyone who has any information regarding Carter’s location is asked to call 911 immediately and not approach him.
