KINGSPORT — Gordo, the bulldog that was stolen during a recent Dale Street burglary, has been recovered safe and sound and has been reunited with his owner, according to a Wednesday afternoon press release from the Kingsport Police Department.
A uniquely colored English bulldog reportedly valued at $3,500, Gordo was found wandering loose in the same neighborhood where he was stolen, the KPD reported. Detectives suspect that whoever stole him most likely later abandoned him.
The KPD was contacted when the person temporarily caring for him saw on social media that he had been reported stolen.
Gordo, who sports a black and brown coloration that is rare to his breed, was stolen in a weekend burglary. At about 5:30 Friday evening, a woman called officers to her home in the 800 block of Dale Street. She said that when she went into a room to let her dogs out of their kennels, she discovered one kennel was damaged and one dog was missing.
According to KPD Public Information Officer Tom Patton, a window in the room was standing open and believed to be the point of entry.
Police say a neighbor had spotted a male and female with a dog resembling Gordo behind a nearby apartment complex. That was about an hour before the burglary was discovered by the victim.
The male suspect was described as white, young and slim, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, a white T-shirt and blue jeans. The only description provided for the female is she had long brown hair.
The burglary investigation is ongoing. Anyone with any information about the case is asked to contact Kingsport police at (423) 229-9429 or (423) 246-9111.
