KINGSPORT — An argument with a family member’s boyfriend has led to the arrest of both a Kingsport man and his son, according to police records, after the victim suffered severe lacerations to the head from being hit with a hammer.
Wendell Lark, 52, and Nathaniel Lark, 27, face charges of aggravated assault in the Tuesday incident. Records at the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office state the incident occurred shortly before 3 p.m. at the Larks’ home, 6724 Loan Star Road, Kingsport.
Wendell Lark’s daughter called dispatch while transporting the victim, her boyfriend, to Holston Valley Medical Center for treatment. The 22-year-old man later told a detective that Wendell Lark had hit him on the head with a hammer, while the younger Lark held him down and punched him. He reportedly suffered “severe lacerations” in the assault.
When an officer arrived at the Larks’ home, both suspects were still on the scene. A hammer described by the victim was collected as evidence, and the father and son were charged with aggravated assault and transported to the Sullivan County jail.
According to SCSO records, Nathaniel Lark also admitted to pointing a bow and arrow at his sister and the victim after the assault, attempting to “make them leave.” That netted a second count of aggravated assault against him.
Detectives report that the victim had been staying at the Lark home and that the incident might have been triggered by an argument over money. An investigation is continuing.
