KINGSPORT — Detectives are hoping the public can help them track down suspects in a string of recent crimes, including burglaries at two Dollar General stores and the theft of lawn equipment at Saint Dominic’s Catholic School.

Kingsport police are also seeking tips about an unrelated incident at the Fort Henry Mall.

At about 6 p.m. on Aug. 6, a white male was reportedly busted while stealing $1,400 worth of clothing from Belk. A loss prevention officer then attempted to detain him in the parking lot.

The suspect fell and dropped the merchandise, according to police, then ran to a white Jeep Liberty driven by a woman. While fleeing, the man reportedly instructed the driver “to kill” the store employee, but he was not harmed.

A separate case involves the theft of $500 worth of lawn equipment from Saint Dominic Catholic School. As a crew was working at the East Center Street property, a white man entered their utility truck. Police say he was last seen riding a bicycle on Crescent Street, toting a Stihl string trimmer and hearing protectors.

Meanwhile, police believe a pair of recent burglaries at two Dollar Generals are related. The first incident occurred July 21 at the store on East Stone Drive. An employee reported leaving a cash drawer in a manager’s locked office, but later returned to find the money was gone.

A review of surveillance footage revealed a white man unlawfully entering the office, taking the cash and then leaving the store.

On August 12, a similar incident occurred at the Dollar General on North Eastman Road. There, an employee saw a man enter the manager’s office and confronted him, spurring him to flee. Police say video from that store revealed a suspect who looks strikingly similar to the man suspected in the other Dollar General incident.

Police have release video stills from all of the incidents. Anyone who recognizes any of the suspects is asked call the KPD at (423) 229-9429 or (423) 246-9111.
