BIG STONE GAP — The Wise County Sheriff’s Office is seeking a person of interest as authorities investigate a shooting that occurred late Saturday.

On Monday, WCSO Assistant Sheriff Col. Grant Kilgore said 50-year-old Chris Standover was shot once in the lower back at around 11:15 p.m. while inside the garage at his residence on Back Valley Road near Big Stone Gap.

Kilgore said the bullet pierced a window before striking Standover, who was flown to Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport for treatment. Kilgore said Standover was reported in stable condition on Monday.

“We have a person of interest,” Kilgore said. “We feel like this person definitely has knowledge of what happened and we are looking for him. Efforts at this time are being made to utilize the U.S. Marshals Service and their resources to locate this guy.”
