KINGSPORT — Police records show a man was arrested Sunday after intentionally hitting a pedestrian with his vehicle and flipping the victim into the air.

The incident occurred at about 6:30 p.m. in the 1500 block of Garden Drive. According to a Kingsport police report, a woman was standing along the street and talking to a pair of male acquaintances when an SUV pulled up.

When the driver rolled down the window, the female realized it was her ex-boyfriend, Roy A. McClain, 43. McClain reportedly began yelling at the men and threatening to "kill them both and their families."

McClain allegedly drove his SUV over the curbing and toward the men, attempting to strike them. One victim jumped out of the way, but the other, a 39-year-old resident of Garden Drive, was hit and thrown into the air.

McClain fled the area, according to police, while the victim was transported to the hospital by EMS. His condition was not specified, though an incident report says he gave a statement about the incident.

Police soon located McClain at his home on Federal Street and arrested him on two counts of aggravated assault. On Monday morning. he remained held in the Kingsport city jail awaiting arraignment.
