ROGERSVILLE — The Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office is hoping someone recognizes a woman suspected of stealing a $3,400 guitar last week from a church in the Beech Creek community not far from the Sullivan County line.

Video surveillance at the Mount Carmel Freewill Baptist Church, 3711 Beech Creek Road, shows a woman with blond hair hanging around the church last Friday from midnight until around 2:30 a.m.

During that time someone entered the church by breaking a window on the basement floor. The suspect left shoe prints on the wall beneath the broken window.

The suspect took a $3,400 Taylor electric guitar as well as $6 in cash from inside the church.

HCSO Chief Deputy Tony Allen said the behavior of the woman, who is on video off and on for approximately two hours, indicates she might have been dropped off there and left with no ride or place to stay.

Another nearby church just over the Sullivan County line was broken into that same night, and there was evidence to suggest the suspect slept there.

Anyone who can identify this woman or may have information about the burglary or location of the stolen guitar is asked to call the HCSO at (423) 272-4848 or Hawkins County Central Dispatch at (423) 272-7121.
