SURGOINSVILLE — A Surgoinsville man with previous DUI convictions dating back to 1986 was charged with DUI 7th offense Monday evening after he allegedly struck another vehicle in a driveway.

Around 5:30 p.m., Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Billy Begley responded to an accident complaint at a residence on Gatewood Road in Surgoinsville.

The homeowner stated that Mark Dwayne Greer, 51, 1100 Main Street, Surgoinsville, had come to the residence to visit her brother.

While pulling in the driveway, Greer reportedly hit her husband’s truck with the 2002 F-150 he was driving.

Upon speaking to Greer, Begley reportedly observed him to have a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, and Greer allegedly admitted he drank a few beers earlier.

A computer check revealed Greer to have previous DUI convictions in Hawkins County in 2013, 2012, 2009, 2004, and 1986, as well as one in Unicoi County in 2006.

Greer was reportedly unsteady on his feet, performed poorly on field sobriety tests, and he was charged with DUI 7th offense, driving on a revoked license 5th offense, no insurance and failure to maintain due care.

He was arraigned Wednesday in Hawkins County Sessions Court and was released from the Hawkins County Jail on $2,000 bond.
