KINGSPORT — A 64-year-old Kingsport man was killed in Saturday afternoon's motorcycle wreck on Memorial Boulevard, according to police, while charges are pending against the elderly driver who pulled her car in front of him.
As previously reported, the incident occurred at about 1:15 p.m. in the 4000 block, directly in front of the Sunoco gas station. Information released Monday morning by Kingsport police added that Ronald L. Burke was riding a 1998 Harley-Davidson westbound and approaching Glenwood Street.
Meanwhile, Maple L. Leeper, 88, of Kingsport was eastbound in a 1996 Buick Park Avenue. When Leeper attempted to turn left onto Glenwood, she failed to yield the right of way to Burke's oncoming motorcycle, pulling directly into his path.
Burke was killed in the subsequent collision. Leeper was transported to a local hospital by EMS for a precautionary evaluation.
"This crash remains under active investigation by the KPD Traffic Unit with charges pending," said Kingsport Police Department Public Information Officer Tom Patton. "As such, no additional details can or will be released at this time."
