KINGSPORT — A Blountville man has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with a Thursday shooting, city police announced Saturday afternoon.

Corey Lee Moore, 28, 4805 Highway 11-W, was charged in the death of Timothy L. Gilliam, 56, 524 Stapleton Drive.

Moore was arrested at about 12:15 a.m. Saturday in the parking lot of Model City Apartments, 1000 Stonegate Road, Kingsport. According to a news release from Kingsport Police Department Public Information Officer Tom Patton, Moore was spotted driving a vehicle into the parking lot and was “subsequently taken into custody without incident.”

At about 8:45 p.m. Thursday, police found Gilliam dead inside the home from what appeared to be gunshot wounds. Patton said detectives developed Moore as a suspect after following up on several leads and working “nonstop around the clock.”

“He (Moore) was transported to the Kingsport City Jail, and is currently being held without bond, pending arraignment,” the release from Patton said. “As this remains an active homicide investigation, and in the interest of a successful future prosecution, no additional details, to include motive, can or will be released at this time.”
