Update: Man killed in Kingsport shooting, murder investigation launched

Update, 4:04 p.m. — 

KINGSPORT — A man was killed in a Thursday night shooting at a Lynn Garden home, with Kingsport police treating the incident as a homicide and investigating leads.

According to information released by the Kingsport Police Department, at about 8:45 p.m. officers responded to the scene, 524 Stapleton Drive. The victim, currently identified as a 56-year-old white male, was found in the residence with gunshot wounds, and appeared to be recently deceased.

KPD detectives were called in to take over the case. They say it appears to be murder. As of Friday evening, a potential gunman is unidentified remains at large. Multiple leads were being followed up on.

"As this remains an open, active, and as of now unsolved homicide investigation, it would be premature and irresponsible to release further details concerning the matter at this time," said KPD Public Information Officer Tom Patton. "Additional information will be made available at the appropriate point in the investigation."

According to a Friday afternoon press release from Kingsport police: On April 19, 2018 at approximately 8:45 PM, Kingsport Police Patrol Officers responded to 524 Stapleton Drive in Kingsport regarding a shooting incident. Upon arrival, they found a 56 year old white male adult victim, recently deceased from what appeared to be gunshot wounds, inside the residence.

The K.P.D. Criminal Investigations Division was called to the scene. Detectives are actively investigating this shooting incident as a homicide and are currently in the process of following up on several leads. The suspect responsible is still unidentified and currently remains at large.
