Kingsport car thief crashes after 100 mph jaunt

March 14

When a deputy attempted to stop a car that was clocked at 81 mph on Weaver Pike, the driver refused to stop and passed vehicles on the double yellow line and in curves. The suspect eventually pulled over on Rockhold Road, where he was found to be under 18 and without a valid license. More than an ounce of marijuana was located under his seat. He was arrested on multiple charges and transferred to a juvenile detention center.

March 15

Police responded to a dispute between family members on Bristol Caverns Highway. During the incident, a resident grabbed a rifle, and the weapon accidentally discharged. He was arrested for reckless endangerment.

March 16

When a man was stopped on Sullivan Gardens Parkway for having a headlight out, he was visibly shaking and acting suspicious. He denied consent to a search of his vehicle, but when a K-9 conducted an external sniff, it alerted to narcotics being present. A subsequent search located more than two pounds of marijuana and more than 100 small bags, spurring the 25-year-old's arrest on felony charges.

March 17

When a Kingsport woman, 33, confronted her son about a stolen safe containing medication, he allegedly grabbed her by the throat and started choking her. A responding officer arrested the juvenile for aggravated assault.

March 15

In response to a disturbance in Church Hill, police found a washing machine destroyed and slash marks on doorframes and porch railings. The resident said they were inflicted by her ex-boyfriend, who arrived with a machete and began hitting various items. She escaped to a neighbor's to call 911, and he was arrested for domestic violence.

March 18

A Rogersville resident claimed that while he was working on a vehicle in his driveway, another man tapped him on the shoulder and sucker punched him. As the suspect fled in a vehicle, he allegedly yelled that he would "be back to finish him off."

March 16

One day after a woman purchased a used Mitsubishi Lancer, she reported it as being stolen by her boyfriend. A patrol officer soon spotted the car traveling on Stone Drive and attempted to conduct a stop, but the man fled at more than 100 mph. As he attempted to turn onto Gibson Mill Road, he lost control and crashed, then he attempted to run from the scene before being apprehended. He was believed to have been drinking, and a syringe containing a clear liquid was on the floorboard. There were also multiple license tags in the trunk. He was booked into jail on several charges.

An officer observed a patron walk out of Macado's downtown, and another man followed him and punched him the face. Once the pair were separated, it was learned the victim had recently started working for the suspect, and ever since there had been "problems." Ultimately, the boss was arrested for simple assault, disorderly conduct and public intoxication.
