JONESVILLE — A Lee County man sought in a fatal shooting incident in South Carolina on Saturday was taken into custody in Lee County on Monday.

Joshua Ray Wilder, 32, of Jonesville, has been charged in South Carolina with one count of involuntary manslaughter in the shooting death of Christy Parsons, 37, this past Saturday at a residence near Easley, located in Pickens County, S.C., not far from Greenville.

Wilder was reportedly handing a firearm inside the residence when it went off, inflicting a fatal chest wound to Parsons. Wilder and Parsons were reportedly cousins. So far, South Carolina authorities have approached the case as an accidental shooting.

Wilder fled the scene and was the subject of a manhunt in both states until taken into custody by Lee County deputies at around 4 p.m. Monday at a residence in the York community, a location not far from the Dot community, according to Lee County Sheriff Gary Parsons.

On Tuesday, the sheriff said Wilder was "at a friend's house" when located and taken into custody without incident. Wilder is being held in the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail in Duffield until his return to South Carolina is arranged.

Parsons said South Carolina authorities were expected at the jail Tuesday morning to conduct an interview with Wilder.
