KINGSPORT — A Church Hill man has died from injuries sustained in crash 10 days prior, when his vehicle was hit by a tractor-trailer at a Stone Drive red light.

The incident occurred at about 6:30 a.m. on Friday, March 2, and left Tony L. McInturff, 61, in critical condition. McInturff died early Monday evening, according to a Tuesday press release from the Kingsport Police Department.

As previously reported, McInturff was westbound in a Subaru Crosstrek and reportedly stopped or slowed for a traffic signal in front of Walmart at the intersection with Lawson Drive. A 2005 Mack tractor-trailer traveling behind McInturff failed to slow, according to police, and slammed into the rear of his vehicle.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, Sean Carrington Phillips, 32, of Clintwood, was not injured. The vehicle was owned by Fannco LLC, a trucking company located in Pennington Gap.

Police report that an investigation into the wreck is ongoing, and criminal charges are pending.
