SCSO jailer fired following alleged domestic assault

Staff report • Mar 6, 2018 at 5:07 PM

BLOUNTVILLE — For the second time in a month, a Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office employee has been fired following an arrest by police in another jurisdiction.

According to a Tuesday press release from SCSO Public Information Officer Kristen Quon, corrections officer Randall Gray, 25, has been terminated. The move reportedly follows Gray’s Monday arrest by Johnson City police on a charge of domestic assault.

On Feb. 9, the SCSO announced the termination of jailer Michael Payne, 23. That same day, Payne was arrested by the Bristol Virginia Police Department and charged with public intoxication and assault on an officer. After allegedly being found passed out as a passenger in a DUI suspect’s vehicle, Payne allegedly hit an officer in the chest and arm.
