KINGSPORT — A Southwest Virginia man has suffered serious injuries in a motorcycle wreck outside a Kingsport restaurant, where he allegedly was speeding through the parking lot without a helmet and hit a car.

According to Kingsport police, the incident occurred at about 11:30 Wednesday night at Buffalo Wild Wings, 1721 E. Stone Drive. Jarred Lee Delph, 20, of Jonesville, Va., was reportedly riding a 2016 Suzuki GSXR 600.

Investigators say that along with operating the bike "recklessly and at a high rate of speed," Delph also was not wearing a helmet. Meanwhile, a 2001 Honda Civic entered the parking lot safely and lawfully from Indian Trail Drive, police said.

Delph then crashed into the passenger side of the car. He was transported to Indian Path Medical Center and remained in the intensive care unit on Thursday afternoon. Neither occupant of the Honda was injured.

Kingsport police say Delph's injuries were "no doubt aggravated by the fact that he was not wearing a helmet." The KPD is continuing to investigate the crash, saying that alcohol impairment and underage consumption may have factored into the incident.
