Downtown deviant charged with indecent exposure

Sullivan County Sheriff's Office

Feb. 12

Police found an unoccupied pickup crashed on North Pickens Bridge Road, where a witness said a man had walked from the scene. About a quarter of a mile away, a deputy found the described suspect stumbling. When questioned, he said he was "looking for his truck," then performed poorly on field sobriety testing. He was charged with DUI and going armed while intoxicated after a loaded gun was found in his pocket.

Feb. 15

A woman told police about texts relaying that she "needed to send money for government grants." She then followed the instructions in the messages — because she thought they were sent from a friend — and wired $3,500 over a period of four days. Subsequent investigation found she had been scammed.

Feb. 13

During an attempted traffic stop on a wanted man in Church Hill, the suspect fled to his home and then ran inside. Upon entry, officers found him "hanging from the basement ceiling rafters" then arrested him without further incident.

Kingsport Police Department

Feb. 15

— At the Fort Henry Drive Walmart, surveillance cameras recorded a male and female load merchandise into a plastic tote. The male suspect also broke a glass display in the electronics section to swipe several pieces of merchandise, then walked behind a closed register to grab a carton of Marlboros. They successfully exited the store and fled in a vehicle, with the total theft estimated at nearly $1,200.

— A city woman sold a one-carat diamond ring on eBay for $800, then shipped it to the buyer in Utah. Afterward, the purchaser successfully appealed the transaction through PayPal and was supposed to mail the jewelry back — but instead sent a different ring.

— At 7:30 p.m. on Broad Street, an officer spotted what appeared to be a man passed out in a vehicle. But upon approach, it was found the suspect was actually awake and exposing his genitalia. After admitting to gratifying himself while watching porn — and explaining how he "did not think anyone would notice" — the 47-year-old was arrested for indecent exposure and released on a misdemeanor citation.
