Police said as much as 100 gallons spilled because the emergency shutoff at the pump didn't work.
The accident occurred shortly before 8 p.m. at the Murphy USA station in the Rogersville Walmart parking lot at 4329 Route 66-S.
According to a report filed by Rogersville Police Department Officer Mark Cook, a 2000 Mack tractor trailer driven by Stephen Robert Worley of Limestone had just filled up with diesel and was leaving the station when the passenger side area of the trailer struck the pump, causing damage to the pump station.
Police said gas flowed from the pump for a couple of minutes before it was shut off, but the spill was contained before reaching storm drains.
No citations were issued.
Aside from the RFD and HAZMAT, Hawkins County EMS and the Hawkins County Emergency Management Agency responded to the scene.
Contract environmental consultant HEPACO was also called to the spill to conduct the cleanup.
It was Rogersville's second serious gasoline spill since November.
On Nov. 8, a hose ruptured at the Liberty Market on East Main Street, resulting in a substantial spill.
