ROGERSVILLE — On Friday, the Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office served an arrest warrant on 76-year-old wrecker service owner Emil Edsel “Boots” Greer, who is accused of trading hydrocodone for cash and a tow from an undercover officer in Greene County earlier this year.

The investigation began in July after the Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office received complaints about Greer allegedly attempting to trade pills for sexual favors from female customers.

Greer is charged with a single count of sale and delivery of Schedule II narcotics filed by the Third Judicial District Drug Task Force (DTF) which works in cooperation with law enforcement agencies in Hamblen, Greene, Hawkins and Hancock counties.

The DTF reportedly took over the investigation and arranged for an undercover officer to contact Greer for a tow from a business in Bulls Gap to a motel near I-81 in Greene County.

According to a DTF report, after Greer hooked up the undercover officer’s vehicle and was towing it to a motel near exit 23, he struck up a conversation with the undercover officer which led to a discussion about pills.

Greer allegedly told the DTF officer that he uses hydrocodone and that he sometimes gets different pills from another female.

Greer also allegedly openly discussed drug accomplices and the details of a pain clinic with the undercover officer.

He and the officer allegedly reached an agreement that he would trade the cost of the tow and five hydrocodone pills for $100.

Following his arrest Friday, Greer, 924 Highway 70-N, Rogersville, was transferred from the Hawkins County Jail to Greene County, where he was booked and released on bond pending an appearance in Greene County Sessions Court.

The DTF also seized Greer’s rollback.

Assisting the DTF in its investigation was the 3rd Judicial District Attorney General’s Office, Hawkins County Sheriff’s Department, Greene County Sheriff’s Department and Greeneville Police Department.
