Every year around this time, Church Hill dams Alexander Creek at Jaycees Park and dumps in hundreds of “eatin’ size” trout, mostly 8-12 inches long, for the rodeo.
Hooks will drop at 8:30 a.m., and trophies will be awarded to boys and girls in each of the three age groups for first catch; first to catch the limit; and there will be one grand prize for the child who catches the biggest fish of the day.
The event is free, and all children ages 4-16, including nonresidents, can participate in the fishing competition. The age divisions are: 4-7, 8-11, and 12-16.
Registration is at 8 a.m. and there will also be drawings for bicycles and other prizes courtesy of Church Hill VFW Post 9754.
The competition ends at 10 a.m., after which everyone is invited to fish the creek for as long as they like.
The Church Hill Trout Rodeo is sponsored by VFW Post 9754, Buffalo Springs Fish Hatchery, CASVA Angus Farm and Food City.
There will also be free doughnuts, drinks and plenty of fun for everyone.
The event will be held at Jaycees Park at 455 N. Central Ave.
You can preregister your child at Church Hill City Hall during business hours or at Jaycees Park on the day of the event at 8 a.m.
