Prayer vigil scheduled for Sullivan Co. deputy

BLOUNTVILLE — A prayer vigil has been scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday in the parking lot of the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office in Blountville for Deputy Steve Hinkle, who was shot early Saturday morning.

Sheriff Jeff Cassidy stated during a press conference Saturday evening that Hinkle, a 27 year veteran of the SCSO, was in serious condition as a result of being shot during an exchange of gunfire with Jackie Scott Pendergrass at 3606 Highway 11-W.
