Higher Ground hosting Church Security Conference

KINGSPORT — Higher Ground Baptist Church will host the fourth annual Church Security Conference on Feb. 9 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Among the presenters will be:

Hawkins County Sheriff Ronnie Lawson, who will speak on keeping property and the pastor safe.

Sullivan County Sheriff Jeff Cassidy, who will address keeping ministry security legal in Tennessee.

The Virginia State Police’s Jason Jenkins, who will address keeping ministry security legal in Virginia.

Security expert Jerry Quillen, who will cover situational awareness.

Third Judicial District Assistant Attorney General Cecil Mills, who will speak on legal issues related to church.

After lunch, the conference switches from speakers to hands-on scenarios and closes with an active shooter scenario.

Dave Castle from Grace Fellowship Church will lead the hands-on scenario; Hawkins County Deputy Harry Torian will lead the active shooter discussion; and April Williams will discuss nursery security.

Higher Ground Baptist Church is located at 1625 Lynn Garden Drive.
