ROGERSVILLE — Obed the Shepherd will once again be sharing his account of the life of Christ at the Rogersville Men’s Prayer Breakfast when it meets Thursday morning at the Price Public Community Center.

The Prayer Breakfast meets every other Thursday at 6 a.m., and for the past five years Obed has come the Thursday before Christmas to tell his story.

Dr. Blaine Jones, who cofounded the Prayer Breakfast, said it’s a story everyone should hear.

“Obed the shepherd was out in the field the night Jesus (was born), so he witnessed that blessed event and was young enough to follow Jesus through his life, all the way to his death and resurrection,” Jones said. “He tells the story of Christ’s life from his point of view, and it’s a good story. He saw the bright light, the star and the angels that first night, and it overwhelmed him, and of course everyone there wanted to go see the newborn baby.”

Jones added, “From there he followed the life, and eventually death of Jesus. It will almost bring you to tears. I’ve heard it a dozen times, and I swear, it gets better every year.”

The prayer breakfast begins at 6 a.m. Thursday morning. Free Hardee’s biscuits and coffee will be served. Obed’s appearance is expected to begin around 6:30 a.m. and end by 7 a.m. in time for everyone to leave for work.

Prayer Breakfast cofounder Mark DeWitte said the Obed presentation is a great opportunity for men to fellowship, learn and pray together.

“We average 40-45 men per gathering and we want to grow our group as we head into a new year of meetings,” DeWitte said. “We are asking regular attendees to bring several friends along for this special presentation and join us on Thursday.”

The 95-year-old Price Public School Community Center is located at the intersection of Hasson Street and Spring Street just north of downtown Rogersville.
