SURGOINSVILLE -- It was a full day of patriotism, as well as food, music, and plenty of games and activities for children Saturday as the two day Surgoinsville Riverfront Festival concluded Friday.

The highlight of the event involved local Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts asked veterans to assist them in a flag retirement ceremony.

Nationally renowned race engine builder Mike Allen was also honored during the ceremony as the grand marshal of Friday’s Block Party opening parade.

Trophies were awarded to the best horseshoe players, as well as the best car show entries and best antique tractors.

Several bicycles were awarded, among other door prizes, and visitors had the option of free hot dogs, popcorn and snowcones courtesy of the Surgoinsville FBC, and/or a variety food for sale in booths and trucks.
