Kingsport Idol coordinator and host Mark Kilgore says since the local talent show first began in 2006, its popularity has continued to increase.
“This will be the first time we’ve gotten this much talent on one stage from all of our former finalists,” Kilgore said.
The concert will begin at 6:30 p.m., Jan. 30 at the Kingsport Renaissance Center, located at 1200 East Center Street.
Doors open at 5:45 p.m.
Tickets are $8 in advance or $10 at the door.
“Performers can sing two songs of their choice. We have about 20 folks — from our first year in 2006 all the way up to the present — who have committed to being there on Saturday. This is going to be a great way to raise funds for the arts in Kingsport.”
Kilgore said this all-star concert is also serving as a kick off of sorts for this year’s Kingsport Idol competition.
“We are so excited because Kingsport Idol is getting ready to come up on its ninth year,” he said. “Sign ups begin in February and March.”
Kilgore said some past winners have gone on to see great success.
“Six former winners have signed contracts and won’t be able to be at the all-star concert because they’re under contractual agreements. One is working in California and the others are in Nashville. But, this just shows that you never know who’s listening,” Kilgore said.
Sponsors for the Kingsport Idol All-Star Concert are Knoxville TVA Credit Union; Bays Mountain Park and Planetarium; Music Doctors; Cross County Mortgage; and WKPT TV-19.
