A Georgia Tech engineering professor by day and stand-up comedian by night, Ludovice will bring his one-man show “Feel the Power of the Dork Side” to the Kingsport Renaissance Center on Saturday for a single performance.
Show time is 7:30 p.m.
Ludovice’s “Dork Side” is a laugh-a-minute roller coaster ride through the world of science math and technology. Topics he tackles include: “Are you a nerd? — a simple test to tell”; “How math is actually helpful in your everyday life even if you hate it”; “Will those ingredients on the side panel make your body parts fall off?”; “Why scientists should know their audience (especially in the South)”; and “Scientists — why we could use a marketing class.”
Ludovice earned a Ph.D. from M.I.T. and completed postdoctoral studies at IBM, NASA and the Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule-Zürich. After a brief stint in the industry, he is now director of the Center for Academic Enrichment and a faculty member in the School of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta.
His research interests include the computer simulation of synthetic and biological polymers and the use of humorous improvisation to catalyze technical innovation.
Ludovice hosts the weekly radio program “Inside the Black Box,” whose motto is “Science, only funnier,” and “Consilience with Pete & Charlie,” a podcast on the intersection of science and the humanities. He also directs a Living/Learning Community at Georgia Tech on the application of humor to improve technical education, communication and innovation.
Tickets to Saturday’s “Dork Side” performance at the Renaissance Center are $15.
