KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — An exhibition of watercolor paintings by an artist with Parkinson's disease opens Friday in Knoxville.

The works by local artist Thomas H. Windham are being presented by the Arts & Culture Alliance at the Emporium Center.

Windham was diagnosed with the degenerative disease some 10 years ago. According to a news release from the alliance, Windham has found that he can turn blank canvases into works of art by intensely focusing his brain on controlling his pencil or brush long enough to create a line, image or mark. A relatively new artist in watercolor painting, he uses art as therapy.
