“My paintings do not represent objects that I am copying. This lack of subject matter allows me to become freer with the paint and the application. Paint is the subject matter!” Henson explains. “I paint with intensity, energy, authority, and let the painting take me where it wants to go.”
An opening reception to unveil Henson’s latest series of abstract paintings will be held from 2 to 4 p.m., July 31, in the Main Art Gallery on the second floor of the Kingsport Renaissance Center. The exhibit, presented by the Kingsport Art Guild, will remain on display throughout the month of August.
Henson grew up in a small farm town 30 miles from Nashville, where he learned at an early age there was magic in art. “Art has and always will be a part of my life and is still as magical as it was to me over 30 years ago,” Henson says.
