KINGSPORT — Johnson Elementary School Principal Stacy Edwards and Robinson Middle Principal Brian Partin have been selected as 2019 National Distinguished Principals (NDP) from Tennessee, Kingsport City Schools announced Friday. Edwards has been selected as the elementary level NDP, while Partin has been selected as the middle level NDP.
“I am thrilled for both Dr. Edwards and Dr. Partin. ... They are exceptional leaders in their fields and incredibly deserving of this recognition,” KCS Superintendent Jeff Moorhouse said in a news release. “This honor is reflective of the high quality of education in Kingsport and the commitment to excellence that we expect. Both principals are quick to point out the award is not about them, but the great work being done by the teachers in their buildings. I know our community shares in the pride these recognitions represent.”
Edwards has been principal at Johnson since 2012. He has focused on facilitating positive change in school culture and climate and implementing the Leader in Me program for all students, which promotes student leadership. Most recently, Edwards was recognized as the 2019 Kingsport City Schools Principal of the Year. His school recently was the site of a community build of a new Castle Playground to replace a 1990 playground. He received his doctorate in 2018 from Lipscomb University in Nashville.
Partin has been principal at Robinson since 2015. During his tenure, Partin has concentrated on enhancing the collaborative culture with teachers and staff and on implementing support programs that focus on the academic and social-emotional needs of students. He served as the president of the National Association of Elementary School Principals in 2017-18. Partin also received his doctorate in 2018 from Lipscomb.
The National Distinguished Principals Program, established in 1984, recognizes excellence in elementary and middle level principals’ school leadership. Edwards and Partin will have the opportunity to attend the National Distinguished Principals Awards Ceremony in Washington, D.C., in October.
