STREAMWORKS seeks nominations for Twenty Under 20 Awards

KINGSPORT — STREAMWORKS, powered by Eastman in Education, will present the 2019 Appalachian Highlands Twenty Under 20 Awards at an event in April.
The deadline for submitting an application is March 25.

Twenty Under 20 celebrates the outstanding accomplishments of 20 individuals who are age 20 and under. These individuals have demonstrated exemplary achievements in community service, entrepreneurialism, leadership, academics and STEM activities.
“Appalachian Highlands Twenty Under 20 is designed to bring recognition to the amazing student accomplishments and contributions around our region who excel at science, technology, robotics, engineering, arts and math,” said Dennis Courtney, executive director of STREAMWORKS.
“In a complicated world and a future where job opportunities are uncertain, it is our collective responsibility to ensure future generations’ success by providing them the opportunity and resources to pursue a STEM career. The annual Appalachian Highlands Twenty Under 20 highlights and celebrates our students’ initiatives, goals, and victories each and every year.”
Courtney said this initiative also will spotlight the critical necessity of STEM education throughout the Appalachian Highlands region.
A recognition dinner event is scheduled for April 30 at the Kingsport Civic Auditorium at 7 p.m. Nominee submission forms can be requested via email at [email protected]
The mission of STREAMWORKS is to create science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) initiatives that are designed to promote rigorous STEM activities and competitions in our community. STREAMWORKS is changing students’ lives by cultivating and nourishing grass roots efforts to establish an environment of critical and innovative thinkers which will foster a future workforce dedicated to fulfilling critical skills gaps in high-demand technology career fields. One avenue STREAMWORKS utilizes to fulfill these goals is through the establishment of robotics teams and competitions over a variety of STEM disciplines.
