Commission rescinds $584K for sewer lines at new Sullivan East Middle

BLOUNTVILLE — Sullivan County’s governing body has pulled its $584,000 funding of larger trunk lines for the sewer project to serve the new Sullivan East Middle School. However, it explicitly approved the Board of Education spending $1,025,200 in General Fund reserves to fund the project.

On Friday, June 28, the Tennessee Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and Courtesy Subaru teamed up once again for the Subaru Loves to Care initiative to donate warm blankets with messages of hope and craft kits to the patients at Ballad Health's Cancer Center in Kingsport. “It's a blessing and a pleasure to be able to partner with Subaru of America and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to offer some warmth and words of encouragement to the patients at Ballad Health,” said Jamie Bush, sales manager for Courtesy Subaru. Second Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Tennessee received a $32,000 donation from Kroger which will benefit the 1 in 7 individuals in the Tri-Cities region at risk for hunger. The money will support the ongoing programs the food bank offers throughout an eight-county service area providing nutritious food to approximately 40,000 individuals each month. The money also helped the food bank purchase three electric pallet jacks for the warehouse and one of the agencies served by Second Harvest. NiswongerCARE advisors are helping high school graduates in East Tennessee prepare for college during the summer months. Members of the team visited TCAT Elizabethton on May 30 to discuss elements to include in a short video to make incoming students more aware of life on a college campus. Norton school board hires interim football coach

The Norton School Board hired an interim football coach Monday, even as coach James Adams still remains a school system employee. The board voted 5-0 after a half-hour closed session to approve a new coaching list, with Jacob Caudill listed as “(interim) Head Varsity” coach with a 12-percent pay supplement.
