ROGERSVILLE — Summer vacation is coming to a close for Hawkins County youngsters, so it’s time to start sharpening those pencils and getting ready for another year of learning.

The 2018-19 school year begins Monday, Aug. 6, and for the 10th year in a row, every school in the Hawkins County system is hosting a Back to School Bash to help everyone get off to a good start.

Federal programs supervisor Michelle Harless told the Times News that the Bashes serve as valuable orientation tools at each school.

What’s a Back to School Bash?

It gives parents the opportunity to meet with school staff.

It gives students an opportunity to meet their new teachers and classmates and see their new classrooms.

And for students who are transitioning into a new school, it gives them a chance to tour the facility and to find out where their classroom is so that first day is not so overwhelming.

“Each school has planned their own event,” Harless said. “Many will have community organizations available to discuss various resources and opportunities for children and families. Some schools will also be hosting school supply giveaways.”

She added, “Students will be able to find out their schedule and meet teachers. These events are designed to welcome students back and prepare them for a great school year.”
