KINGSPORT — If you’d like to donate school supplies needed by Sullivan County Schools students and make your money stretch by avoiding sales tax, your opportunity is coming this weekend.

The Walmarts on Volunteer Parkway in Bristol, Tenn., and in Kingsport on Fort Henry Drive are hosting Fill the Bus school supply drives, coinciding with the Tennessee tax-free weekend for selected items.

The Kingsport event will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and the Bristol event will take place from 9 a.m to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The sales tax-free weekend runs Friday through Sunday.

The Kingsport event will offer pre-filled backpacks and other items for sale outside the store.

Brenda Wilson, assistant manager at the Kingsport Walmart, and Melissa Dotson, Sullivan County Schools district involvement family coordinator based out of Miller Perry Elementary, could not be reached for comment Friday.
