Volunteer NJROTC cadets place second in regional meet

CHURCH HILL — Volunteer High School NJROTC cadets took second place overall (Division II) at the Appalachia Region ROTC Competition at Science Hill High School on April 7.

The Appalachia Region ROTC Competition (ARRC) is a premier, year-end event hosted by Science Hill High School.

ARRC challenges regional JROTC units to bring their best in marksmanship, academics, physical fitness, personnel inspection and drill.

The annual events draws the best units to compete in the culmination of the school year.

Volunteer cadets competed in each category.

In drill, they competed in Unarmed Squad, Armed Squad and Color Guard.

Volunteer NJROTC Cadets took home the following team awards in Division II:

— Second place overall

— First place, Marksmanship: commanded by Jaden Ann Fraser and Nicole Carvagno

— Second place, Physical Fitness: commanded by Cheyenne Miller

— Third place, Academic: commanded by Gavyn Gilliam

— Third place, Armed Squad: commanded by Levi Trent

— Third place, Unarmed Squad: commanded by Brandon Smith

The following cadets received special recognition:

— Nicole Carvagno: Top Marksman Overall, Top Kneeling Position and Top Standing Position

— Jaden-Ann Fraser: Top Prone Position (Marksmanship)
