Do you enjoy meeting new people? Listening to live music? Dancing the night away? Eating a scrumptious dinner with no dishes to clean? All that and more comes to members of Steppin’ Out!

Steppin’ Out is a social club in the greater Tri-Cities area. We welcome adults of all ages who enjoy making new friends, dining on fine foods, dancing to great music and, if you will allow the pun, “Steppin’ Out” for a night on the town.

The club has a long history, having formed in 1942. Originally, the club was named “Mr. and Mrs. Club.” In 2009, it and the “Forty Club” merged and, in 2019, the club changed its name to “Steppin’ Out.”

With our jazzy new name, we have adopted a signature line dance set to two famous songs: “Steppin’ Out” written and sung by Joe Jackson in 1982 and “Steppin’ Out with My Baby” written by Irving Berlin in 1948 and performed by Tony Bennett. If you like to dance, join us! We dance to all types of music: rock ‘n’ roll, Top 40, beach, country, jazz and big band. We shag, swing, line dance, ballroom, or just move to the groove.

Not everyone dances though. If you just like to listen to good music, join us! We use local band favorites like Big Band Theory and Spirit of Soul and bands from the Southeast region like The Extraordinaires from North Carolina.

Some folks join us for the opportunity to meet new people. You don’t have to have a connection. We do the connecting for you! Come have a glass of wine, a beer, or a cocktail. Enjoy a savory dinner. It’s fun to get dressed up a few times a year. Join the club!

Members pay annual dues of $50 per person. This allows us to secure venues and bands early. Each event will have a ticket price based on the cost of the meal which you will pay only if you attend the event. You don’t have to attend every party, but you won’t want to miss them!

Recently, we have enjoyed several great events: “Denim and Diamonds” Country Western Party at the Allandale Dance Barn; “A Dickens of a Christmas” at Meadowview Cattails Ballroom; “Roaring 1920s Gatsby Party” at the Carnegie Hotel; and “An Evening in Italia” at Corey Ippolito Winery.

Here’s a sneak peak of what’s ahead!

Our Fall 2019 event will be a party that Truman Capote made famous in 1966: “Party of the Century,” a Black and White Masquerade Ball. As you pull up to the entrance of the new Bristol Hotel, where the valet will park your car, you’ll ride the elevator to the roof in your snazziest black and white attire to enjoy cocktails overlooking downtown Bristol. An elegant dinner will be served in the ballroom with live music and dancing to Big Band Theory, a nine-piece band that plays big band jazz through modern jazz, plus pop and party music.

Our annual semiformal Christmas Dinner Dance is a joint adventure with our friends in the Commodore Club. Meadowview Cattails Ballroom provides a lovely venue with cocktails overlooking the golf course and a tasty dinner. The Extraordinaires, from Hickory, North Carolina, will be keeping the dance floor energized as they play Top 40, R&B, rock ‘n’ roll, 60s, 70s and beach music.

If you aren’t excited by now, then “hold your horses!” The Spring 2020 event will find us at the International Storytelling Center in Jonesborough for a classic Kentucky Derby Party. We’ll be “talkin’ derby” and sipping Mint Juleps outside on the covered porch while watching the race live on the big screen. Traditional Derby fare will be served, and awards will be given to the lady with the Best Hat and to the Snazziest Gent. We’ll burn off those calories dancing to one of our favorite DJs, Mr. Jim Utterback of “A Sharp Entertainment.”

The Summer 2020 event is still a secret. But, as you can see, we have a great time!

We hope you’ll be “Steppin’ Out” with us soon!
