BLOUNTVILLE — In the first four days of early voting, more than 10,000 voters have gone to the polls in Sullivan County, according to the election commission.

The opportunity to vote early continues through Nov. 1 at three locations in Sullivan County, with those polling places open each day except Sunday.

RACES INCLUDED

The ballot for the Nov. 6 state and federal general election includes the race for governor, U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives seats and Tennessee House and Senate seats.

In the race for governor, Republican Bill Lee and Democrat Karl Dean are among 28 candidates, the rest running as Independents.

Two other races that span the ballots across our region: one of Tennessee’s two U.S. Senate seats (Republican Marsha Blackburn, Democrat and former Gov. Phil Bredesen, and six Independents); and U.S. House of Representatives, District 1 (incumbent Republican Phil Roe, Democrat Marty Olsen, and Independent Michael D. Salyer).

In Tennessee, all registered voters may — and are often encouraged by election officials to do so — cast an early in-person ballot at designated polling places. Registered Sullivan County voters may cast a ballot at any of the three early voting locations during the early voting period. On Election Day (Nov. 6), however, voters must go to their assigned precinct.

TURNOUT SO FAR

According to daily reports issued by the Sullivan County Election Commission, early voter turnout totals, to date, are: 2,905 the first day; 2,897 the second day; 3,073 the third day; and 1,180 the fourth day. That brings the cumulative total to 10,055.
