BLOUNTVILLE — The Sullivan County Election Commission has confirmed voter turnout today, when combined with early voting numbers, will set a record for an August election in the county.

Sullivan County Administrator of Elections Jason Booher told the Times News that as of 6 p.m. Election Day turnout was roughly 11,500 — with two hours to go before polls close at 8 p.m. Any eligible registered voter in line at 8 p.m. will be allowed to cast a ballot.

Booher said the 11,500 figure, combined with the in-person early vote total of 11,827, will result in a record overall turnout for an August ballot in the county.
