Over the next four weeks, the organization will be accepting donations of a variety of household items to sell during its yard sale next month. All proceeds from the event will directly fund the society’s work in the community.
When and where can you donate items?
Donations will be accepted every Saturday in May from 10 a.m. to noon at the old Food City building in Weber City, across from Holston View Cemetery. This is also where the actual yard sale will be held on June 1 and 2.
What kinds of items can you donate?
Robin Skeen, president of the Scott County Humane Society, said clean, lightly used items in good working condition will be accepted, including small appliances, tools and other household items.
Outdated electronics and textbooks will not be accepted because they typically don’t sell, Skeen added.
How will the proceeds be used?
Skeen said the yard sale is the humane society’s biggest fundraiser of the year. Proceeds will benefit two specific programs: the spay and neuter program, which is open to all Scott County citizens; and the rescue program, in which animals are saved from the county’s shelter and placed in no-kill rescues.
“We’re shooting for $10,000, and we’ve been close to that (in the past),” Skeen said. “It depends on the donations and the quality of the donations.”
Skeen added that because the humane society is a nonprofit organization, all donations are tax-deductible.
What are some other ways you can help?
Skeen said the humane society is currently seeking short-term foster homes for some of its rescue animals. For more information, call (276) 452-7247, leave a brief message and someone will return your call within 24 hours.
