Mark the date and gather your friends together for a fun-filled night, great food and fun - all to help a very worthy cause.
Rolling for Readers will be held Tuesday, May 1, from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of First Presbyterian Church, located at 100 West Church Circle in Kingsport.
Beginning at 6 p.m., enjoy a delicious dinner of salad, homemade soups, breadsticks and desserts hosted by the Sullivan County Imagination Library, Delta Pi Chapter (ESA International) and the IOTA Chapter (Delta Kappa Gamma). Your support and participation will go to help fund the Dolly Parton Imagination Library program in Sullivan County.
“We provide free, age-appropriate Imagination Library books, which are mailed to over 6,700 preschool children in Sullivan County,” according to Rhoda Bliese. “In addition to helping the Imagination Library accomplish its goal of reaching preschool children with the gift of literacy, this event is a lot of fun; there’s great food and wonderful prizes donated by area merchants. Adding to the wonderful homemade soups and desserts made by volunteers, there will be tomato basil soup donated by the Mustard Seed Cafe.”
Dinner will be from 6 to 7 p.m. with Bunco games from 7 to 9 p.m. Instructions to this fun and easy game will be provided prior to the start of play.
All proceeds from the event will go to cover the costs of purchasing and mailing free, age-appropriate Imagination Library books to Sullivan County preschool children.
“Because of the positive results indicated by studies with the children - improvement in vocabulary and language skills, excitement in reading and being read to - community support is very important,” Bliese adds. “Every effort is made to reach the child and his or her family to register them to receive books. Mail-in registration forms are available at all local libraries, or you may register your child online at https://imaginationlibrary.com.”
Beginning in 1995 with a simple dream of inspiring children in East Tennessee to learn and love to read, Dolly Parton’s dream has reached halfway around the world, touching the lives of over 1,083,031 children in the United States, Canada and Britain through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.
It’s important to remember that the Sullivan County Imagination Library is a local, all-volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, so donations and contributions are tax-deductible. This year’s event will honor the memory of Flora Fish, who was a founding board member and longtime advocate for the Sullivan County Imagination Library.
