National Pancake Day to support Children’s Miracle Network hospitals

Staff Report • Feb 24, 2018 at 8:00 AM

KINGSPORT — The Kingsport Kiwanis Club and IHOP invite you to enjoy a free short stack of buttermilk pancakes on National Pancake Day Tuesday.

The event will be held Feb. 27 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the IHOP in Kingsport, located at 1201 E. Stone Drive. In exchange for the pancakes, customers will be asked to make a charitable donation.

Since launching National Pancake Day in 2006, IHOP has raised $24 million for local charities. This year’s proceeds will benefit Children’s Miracle Network (CMN), of which Kingsport’s Ballad Health is a member.

More than 170 hospitals are members of CMN. On an average day, CMN hospitals have 16,000 kids in the ER, 2,329 undergoing surgery, 2,216 with cancer, 935 with diabetes and 925 babies in the NICU, according to a press release.

Last year, IHOP served 6.6 million free pancakes, a stack 19 miles high. When you enter IHOP on Feb. 27, you will be greeted by a Kingsport Kiwanian who will provide more information about the fundraiser for CMN.

Since the club was founded in 1924, Kingsport Kiwanis has been dedicated to serving local children. For more than 60 years, the club has provided winter coats to needy children in local schools.

Club members also act as Reading Buddies to children from kindergarten to third grade at Kennedy and Roosevelt elementary schools. The club also provides children’s books for the school libraries and helps with local literacy programs.
